Russian Dating Scam Alert
It has come to our notice that certain fraudsters on the Internet are currently operating a con trick known as the Russian Dating Scam. This alert is issued to forewarn all members of this scam. We advise all members NOT to send any money to any Russian persons, via a bank money transfer procedure, without personally meeting the individual first in their home country. Be sure to verify their identity and carry out the proper checks before entering into a serious relationship.
The Russian Dating Scam is a widespread criminal scheme that many people have suffered from. You may be contacted via email, by a beautiful woman from Russia saying that she is interested in you and invites you to reply to her. You correspond with this person (often it's a man, not a woman in reality) and one day, sometimes in few days, sometimes in few months, you are asked to send money to her: to buy a visa and airline ticket so that she might visit you, or to help her poor mother or father "who is ill and in hospital" etc. Needless to say, once you send money, they have you hooked and then they continue to send you a constant stream of requests for more money! If you fail to send them any money; you may be the unfortunate recipient of a particularly nasty Russian email virus, sent as an email attachment.
